Cardiac FDG-PET: a straight forward tool with high potential.

چکیده
The latter component is based on the fact that homing into ischaemic tissue is mediated by stromal cell-derived factor (SDF)-1 expression in the myocardium which binds to its corresponding receptor CXCR-4 on circulating stem cells. SDF-1 is usually inactivated by enzymatic cleavage via dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV). Hence, pharmacological inhibition of DPP-IV stabilizes SDF-1 and enhances stem cell homing into ischaemic myocardium. Brunner’s group has shown that combined treatment of AMI in mice with G-CSF and sitagliptin leads to a significant increase in both survival and cardiac function. These beneficial effects were attributed to increased cardiac homing of bone marrow-derived stem cells which induced neovascularization and reduced cardiac remodelling as well as apoptosis. The study of Gross et al. was now performed to substantiate the possible effects of this therapeutic concept on cardiac remodelling after AMI by use of 18F-FDG-based micro-PET. Therefore, 13 mice were treated for 5 days with G-CSF and sitagliptin (GS) after surgical AMI induction according to a previously established protocol. Ten mice receiving saline (placebo) after AMI induction served as control. On Day 6 and Day 30 after AMI induction, the animals were anaesthetized with isoflurane, and FDG-PET scans were acquired in a dedicated small animal PET scanner. Analysis of these images revealed the following:

F-18 FDG PET/CT Imaging of Eccrine Sweat Gland Carcinoma of the Scrotum with Extensive Regional and Distant Metastases
Eccrine carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant skin cancer arising from eccrine sweat glands with a high metastatic potential. It mainly occurs in the elderly, with equal incidence in both sexes. It usually spreads to regional lymph nodes, with liver, lungs, and bones being the most common sites of distant metastasis. Because of tumor rarity, little is known about the value of F18- FDG PET/CT...
متن کامل[18F]FDG PET/CT in a case of recurrent primary cardiac osteosarcoma
Primary cardiac osteosarcoma is a very rare malignancy with a high incidence of local recurrence and systemic metastasis, contributing to the poor prognosis. Radiological modalities are commonly used for the evaluation of cardiac masses. 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography is a valuable whole-body imaging modality in ...
متن کاملFactors influencing the pattern and intensity of myocardial 18F-FDG uptake in oncologic PET-CT imaging
Introduction:Myocardial 18F-FDG uptake is highly variable in oncologic whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT studies, ranging from quite intense to minimal distribution. Intense or heterogeneous myocardial 18F-FDG uptake is undesirable as it may interfere with the visual or quantitative evaluation of tumoral invasion and metastases in pericardium, myocardiu...
متن کاملRare case of squamous cell carcinoma of buccal mucosa metastasizing to interventricular septum in a young adult detected by 18F-FDG PET-CT
Metastatic tumors to the heart unlike primary cardiac tumors are not rare. Despite its frequency, cardiac metastasis is commonly detected only during autopsy as the symptoms of disseminated metastasis prevail over symptoms caused by cardiac metastasis and hence is overlooked most of the time. Tumors more commonly found metastasizing to the heart are malignancies of lung, breast, esophagus, lymp...
متن کاملFalse-positive FDG PET CT Scan in Vertebral Hemangioma
FDG PET CT scan is considered to be a sensitive tool to detect skeletal metastasis in known malignancies. However, it’s high sensitivity and low specificity may account for false positive diagnosis in cases of trauma, infection, inflammation and other benign conditions. Skeletal hemangioma is one of the common benign conditions which are typically ametabolic on FDG PET CT with no uptake on bone...
